Christopher J. Haggerty DDS, MD, FACS

Dr. Christopher J. Haggerty is a native of Kansas City, Missouri and a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Dr. Haggerty completed his dental training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2002. He then entered a combined Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/M.D. integrated residency in 2002 at Louisiana State University. Dr. Haggerty graduated from medical school at Louisiana State University in 2005. He then completed an internship in general surgery/neurosurgery in 2006. In 2006, he received the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) Community Service Award for his actions during hurricane Katrina. Dr. Haggerty received his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery certificate from Louisiana State University in 2008. Dr. Haggerty served as a clinical assistant professor within the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UMKC from 2010 to 2017.  Dr. Haggerty served as a Board Examiner for the America Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and served as the Co-Chair for Surgery Section II (facial trauma surgery, facial reconstructive surgery and dental implant/dentoalveolar surgery) for the American Board.  Dr. Haggerty is a current anesthesia examiner for the state of Missouri and serves on the Kansas City Selection Committee for Fellowship for the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

Dr. Haggerty has numerous publications in the areas of dental implants, bone grafting, facial cosmetic surgery, craniomaxillofacial trauma and reconstruction.  Dr. Haggerty has authored two surgical atlases, has published over 40 book chapters and has numerous journal publications within peer reviewed journals.  He is the author of “Atlas of Operative Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery” and a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with over 200 manuscripts reviewed. Dr. Haggerty’s book (now in its second edition) has been published in five languages and is nationally and internationally recognized.  Dr. Haggerty has lectured nationally on the topics of dental implants, bone grafting, facial trauma, pathology and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Haggerty is active in numerous organizations, including the American Dental Association (ADA), the Missouri Dental Association (MDA), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS), the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Midwest Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MAOMS).

Dr. Haggerty served as president of the Greater Kansas City Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Society for over a decade and is a past president of the Eastern Jackson County Dental Society. Dr. Haggerty is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a past committee member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Committee on Practice Management and Professional Allied Staff (CPMPAS) and served as the Missouri Delegate for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) for over a decade. Dr. Haggerty is a licensed dentist, physician and surgeon and is on staff at numerous local hospitals. Dr. Haggerty has been practicing the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 2008 and opened his state of the art surgical practice, Lakewood Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialists, in early 2011.
